Position Discription: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking to hire a Marketing and Communications Content Specialist with the demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and evaluate marketing content, brand strategies and programs. This position will have a specific focus on stewardship and donor relations.The Marketing and Communications Content Specialist will provide support for marketing and communications related actions and report directly to the Senior Marketing Manager. This position will have a dotted line relationship with the Executive Director of Donor Relations and will be considered a part of the donor relations team as well as the marketing team. The selected candidate will be responsible for the deployment of stewardship communications and marketing activities, both internal and external. The Marketing and Communications Content Specialist is responsible for providing strategic, forward-thinking marketing planning, content creation and development for stewardship and donor relations as part of the Campaign for Carolina, the University’s largest ever fundraising campaign. With the support of the Senior Marketing Manager and the Executive Director of Donor Relations, this position is responsible for the planning, creation and implementation of marketing and communications content that may include acknowledgement/gratitude content, annual impact reports, donor communications, stewardship events, GiveTHANKS (day of gratitude), student profiles, milestone communications, endowment reporting, strategies for donor retention campaigns and faculty/staff giving recognition, as examples. The Marketing and Communications Content Specialist will work directly with both the University Development marketing and donor relations teams across the University to develop communications plans and provide a portfolio of materials. While primarily supporting donor relations efforts, this position may also support other fundraising initiatives as well.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrated experience successfully writing professionally for a variety of platforms including presentations, speeches, scripts, social media, articles, editorials, correspondence, blogs and websites; and agility to move quickly between assignments for the platforms in a busy and fast-paced environment. With a particular focus on stewardship and fundraising, the ability to develop a compelling story with memorable turns of phrases that evoke emotion and inspire action is essential, along with ability to ensure all communications reflect the tone, style and preferences of the speaker. Capable of sifting through large amounts of information, quickly distilling key points and translating them to memorable key messages, while maintaining key facts and figures to support the message. Experience supporting organizational/client initiatives while meeting tight schedules and deadlines. Strong organizational ability and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to counsel leadership across the campus. Ability to build relationships all levels of the organization. Proficiency in MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel is required.

Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree, preferably with a major in journalism, English, communications or other related field. A minimum of 2 years of communications and/or marketing experience. Prior donor relations/stewardship writing experience highly desirable. Previous experience in higher education and/or nonprofit setting preferred. WordPress experience is a plus. Adobe InDesign and Photoshop skills are desirable.
Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
