Every year my doctor and I have that traditional fight about my weight gain around the holidays (afterwards). I tried to outstep him by scheduling my appointments in February with the sincere intent of working out like crazy during January. (Uh-hm). That did not work....
First of all, many medications whether you are Bipolar or not, have a side effect that is wicked! It's known as "weight gain" or more subtly, "increase in weight," without saying anything about how to counter-act it.
So, how the heck do you maintain a safe weight around the holidays and stay on necessary medications? I tried cutting back on foods weeks before the holidays to compensate for the expected weight gain. One year I even purchased one of those gym memberships, but that did not work either.
Do you have any suggestions? (thought I had all the answers, didn't you?)
Ok, here's what you need to know so far: I have already eaten the equivalent of a 12-inch pumpkin pie with cool whip, I have to bake sugar cookies for my son (they must be taste-tested), I had about two cups of mac-n-cheese and all the turkey trimmings complete with rolls and two slices of walnut cake; ok-I have had four pumpkin muffins from dunkin donuts since turkey day (I was gonna hold this one back), and i did something really, really bad the other day--I fried Salmon cakes and diced potatoes...
and Christmas/Kwanzaa ain't even here yet and I gotta have pancakes with King syrup on Christmas morning because, uhmm...it's a tradition.....HELP??????
