When we think of low levels of estrogen it is in relationship to women following the stage of life known as menopause. Low levels of the estrogen related hormone estradoil is associated with the increase rate of fractures but not just in women but also in aging men.
In an study it was found that there was a threefold increased risk of hip fracture in men who had both low levels of testosterone and estradoil. Osteoporosis and fractures are not so uncommen in older men and this deserves more attention so there can be more prevention and treatment stategy.
Until more studies are done, men should be aware so they can be sure they have adequate intake of both calcium and vitamin D, they stop smoking and be physically active on a regular basis.
So in this case...what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.
