Well, suh...
Every now and then I run across an article or information that floors me with thought-provoking challenges for acceptance. Today, I am twixed between it being possible, I guess, that even toddlers could have a chemical imbalance of the brain that causes chronic depression or is this notion mere nonsense? Did I even as a child have the predeposition of depression that led to my eventual diagnosis of Bipolar? Is it possible that my parents could have had me into talk-therapy while I attended kindergarten? Should we be watching our toddlers more carefully so that we prevent a more serious brain disorder by the time they enter kindergarten?
Uugh, I just don't know, but in an article posted in the Washington Post on August 11, 2009, "Study: Depression Seen in Children as Young as 3" By LINDSEY TANNER,
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte... research conducted by Dr. Joan Luby, a psychiatrist at Washington University in St. Louis, is stating that it is true.
Based on this article, children as young as 3 are being documented as struggling with chronic depression. Although the research claims to be able to dismiss the idea that these children are just being emotionally immature, I am trying to picture this and how to tell if a toddler is suffering from chronic depression. Ok, maybe a collicky baby is really depressed....huh?
Let me know what you think.
