ABCNews.com--A secret love affair conducted in the 1940's remained unknown to an Italian woman's husband until just before Christmas. Learning of his wife's adultery the man has filed for divorce after 77 years of marriage at the age of 99.
It's never too late to experience matrimonial strife as the breakdown of a 77 year marriage shows. A 99-year-old Italian man, identified only as Antonio C, is divorcing his 96-year-old wife Rosa, after discovering she betrayed him in the 1940's.
The Telegraph reported that Antonio only found out about his wife's infidelity a few days before Christmas when he discovered love letters kept by Rosa that evidenced an affair in the 1940's. Rosa confessed to the affair but her husband insisted on pressing forward with divorce papers which have now been lodged in a court in Rome.
At 99 years the angry Italian husband is the oldest person to file for divorce, taking the record from a British couple who divorced in 2009 when both they were both aged 98. The Telegraph reported at the time that the marriage of Bertie and Jessie Wood had lasted 36 years.
This latest love split is in direct contrast to Indian widower Hazi Abdu Noor, whom Digital Journal reported tied the knot this October at the grand old age of 120. The aged widower took a bride just half age.
