On August 16, 2012, 18-year old Shannon Nyamodi fell asleep in his truck and woke up after hearing gunshots. He saw a white woman running towards him with blood pouring from her head. He called 911 and tried to help her.
The woman told police that her 15-year old daughter was responsible for the shooting. The girl allegedly put out a Facebook message asking if anyone wanted to be paid to shoot her mother.
Shannon was arrested and charged with 12 felonies, including charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and murder with the victim's daughter. Shannon has no criminal record and is being held in jail on a $500 000 bail. His family cannot post it.
Shannon's DNA was not found on the gun used in the shooting or on the fully-recovered stolen money.
Several other witnesses saw a white male fleeing the scene at the time of the crime, according to the official police report. A white male who fits the description is believed to be a relative of a member of the Sheriff's office and is also part of a well-known local gang.
On the day of the crime, he also posted a picture on Facebook of himself holding a large amount of cash with the caption "They should arrest me tonight but I guess they are not going to take me in."
Shannon's attorney (a former prosecutor) is suspected of working with the prosecution: he has tried to force Shannon to take a plea deal instead of motioning the courts to reduce his hefty $500,000 bail.
Shannon’s case has been completely removed from the Franklin County Courts computer system. Shannon has not yet had a trial, and a trial date is not set.
