Colby Christina RECEIVES Prestigious 2014 AUDELCO - Rising Star Award (7409 hits)


The AUDELCO Awards began promptly at 7:00 p.m. at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space located at 2537 Broadway at 95th Street in New York City. The theme for this year’s 42nd Annual Vivian Robinson/AUDELCO Recognition Awards for Excellence in Black Theatre was “Remember, Reflect, and Celebrate”. This year’s stellar 42nd Year AUDELCO Awards garnered critical acclaim under the organization’s leadership of President, Grace Jones. The AUDELCO committee continues to find today’s top talent, rising stars, outstanding productions by Black Companies, Plays and Musicals Written or Directed by Black Artist, and featuring Black Artist.

On Monday, November 17, 2014, 13 year old Professional Dancer, Singer, Actress, Model, Advocate and Motivational Speaker, COLBY CHRISTINA, joined the ranks of Kerry Washington, Sanaa Latham, Denzel Washington and others as a AUDELCO "RISING STAR AWARD " recipient.

Standing before a packed theatre Colby Christina gave a riveting acceptance speech which will forever be noted in the AUDELCO and Entertainment World Archives.

Colby Christina stated: "I am excited about receiving this award and to all those whose shoulders I stand on, I am ready to work, ready to achieve and ready to rise... so call me".

Entertainment greats like Woodie King Jr., Dee Dee Bridgewater, Roscoe Orman, Ralph Carter, Andre DeShields, George Faison, Ruben Santiago Hudson, Ebony Jo-Ann, A. Curtis Farrow, Billy Mitchell, Chapman Roberts, Loretta Abbott, Claude Jay and Cherine E. Anderson to name a few were in the theatre with applause, approval and excitement for the young, eloquent, poised triple threat, Colby Christina.

Colby Christina is a Professional Dancer, Singer and Actress and has trained professionally since the age of two. She has been labeled a formable “triple threat” nationally and internationally. To her credit she has accomplished many “first” in the Arts and in Academia and is the recipient of many awards, citations, proclamations and honors.

In the Lead Role of "Alice" in the Stage to TV Production, “The Liberation of Mother Goose”, written by phenomenal Playwright Aduke Aremu, Executive Producer/Director, Peggy Alston, Musical Director Mario Sprouse and Director & Choreographer Abdel Salaam, Colby Christina captured the attention of many in the Theatre World and beyond.

About – AUDELCO - The Audience Development Committee, Inc., was established in 1973 by the late Vivian Robinson to honor excellence in New York African American Theatre through presentation of Vivian Robinson/AUDELCO Recognition Awards (VIV Awards). The awards were created to promote "Recognition, Understanding and Awareness of the Arts in the African-American community".

AUDELCO is still alive and thriving thanks to Grace Jones, President and others.
