In his 2015 State of the Union address, President Obama announced his plan to make two years of community college education free for responsible students. Since then, leaders in education, business, philanthropy, nonprofits, and other sectors have stepped up to highlight the value of a community college education and build support for College Promise programs across the country. At least 24 initiatives and programs have been announced, including new programs in communities like Oakland, Detroit, and Salt Lake City.
