FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!
Six students from Appleton North High School and six from several Milwaukee high schools met Saturday at the Fox Valley Unitarian Universalists church in Appleton, WI, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Afterwards a pot luck social was held so that the students could get to know each other better. The discussion was led by Dr. Katherine Wilson, Executive Director of the Zeidler Center. This was the most in-depth, apolitical, intelligent discussion on gun violence that I have ever experienced. Panel members were from urban and suburban environments and represented a wide range of experience with guns and the NRA. The students discussed a recent bill being proposed by a Representative Jessie Kremer from Kewaskum, 68 miles southeast of Appleton, who is proposing that teachers carry guns in the classroom. Additional subjects discussed were alternative views of safety by our state legislators, who are "bad people," why do people carry firearms, and how do we address peoples fear.

The event was covered by two TV stations, and was aired on both the 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM news. The next photo shows two high schools students on the panel who really hit it off. The bottom photo is Alexander, LeResha, and Pastor Mary Martha from Hepatha Lutheran Church, where I was picking Alexander and LeResha up for the drive north. #GUNSAFETY #GUNS
