PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S
HEALTHCARE REFORM TELECONFERENCE
August 20, 2009
{Why not print it out and read at your leisure while eating breakfast, having coffee, commuting. Please share with friends, family, co-workers and let's get this thing passed...]
[Read to the end and learn truth about abortion rumors, death panel rumors, college kids and healthcare, public Exchange option rumors, etc. This is by far the most thorough breakdown of healthcare reform]
Today, I attended a Teleconference on Healthcare Reform sponsored by Obama For America (“OFA”). Before I introduce the honored special guest, Governor Tim Cain, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee; Mr. Jeremy, Deputy National Director; Mitch Stewart, the National Director of OFA; Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz who has held many townhall meetings and conferences for women; and Volunteer Beth Kimbriel were all present and offered different perspectives on why each of us should support and continue to support Healthcare Reform in America.
Mr. Cain opened by explaining that President Obama’s commitment to Healthcare Reform is being taken farter than under any other president. One million declarations have been signed in support of Healthcare Reform. “We are closer than ever, but there is still work to do.” He urged supporters to be super diligent in talking to family and friends and co-workers about the significance of Healthcare Reform. We must overcome the scare tactics of the healthcare industry as well as those who like to scream and shout and be rude in order to be able to learn truths about Healthcare Reform and share them with others. We cannot rely on the media to give us the whole truths.
Mr. Cain also pointed out some accomplishments with Healthcare Reform as a means of encouragement. These include: 1.5 million organizers and strategists are doing neighborhood events, knocking on doors, supporting the Democratic Congress, sharing their stories to put a real face on the need for healthcare reform in the U.S. These are real stories that every average American can identify with and that results in truth! This is important because there are a lot of myths and rumors being intentionally circulated about Healthcare Reform and when you talk to people who trust you and know you, they know you are being honest with them about Healthcare Reform. Lastly, before Mr. Cain turned the Teleconference over to Rep. Wasserman-Schultz, he shared that last week and for the first time in American history, 64,000 visited their Congresspersons and thanked them for their support of Healthcare Reform. While there are just 19 days left before Congress reconvenes, it is critical to continue being diligent and supportive of Healthcare Reform.
Rep. Wasserman-Schultz expressed that supporters of Healthcare Reform must act boldly to take advantage of this moment to end unfair practices in the ehalth industry. She reminded everyone that there were folks who said America was not ready for an African-American president, but look what happened! We can prove it again that America is ready for Healthcare Reform. It is necessary that affordable health insurance become available to every American. We must look pass the scare tactics and volunteer and inform family and friends that Healthcare Reform will be accessible and affordable to those without it and end the fears of millions who worry about what will happen to their families if they get sick or must file bankruptcies or otherwise crush families due to lack of quality, affordable healthcare.
Just before our honorable guest arrived, a Volunteer, Beth, commented that for the first time in her life, she has a President who has the vision, passion, and commitment to make healthcare affordable and accessible. She emphasized that the current healthcare industry in America works only for the healthcare industry and not for the people and she is committed to keep volunteering to get it done.
Amongst cheers of “Yes, we can!” our honorable guest arrived and thanked everyone for his or her unbelievable dedication. That voice was President Barack Obama!
President Obama began reminding everyone that he is “here” because “you” believed after an era of selfishness and greed, “we” can restor balance, growth, and recovery to the economy. However, President Obama explained that the victory of the election must now manifest into the day-to-day lives of Americans and that healthcare should, therefore, make a difference in the life of working families.
In summary, President shared that America has been kept out of a depression since he took office, that health insurance has been expanded to include 11 million more children across the country, thousands have been put back to work building bridges and road constructions, and as of today, more protections have gone into effect for credit card holders. America is rebuilding its military and alliances around the world and we should be proud, not complacent, about achieving quality healthcare for every American!
Of course, President explained, healthcare is a very emotional issue and event, but despite the negative townhall coverages by television, remember nothing is more powerful than millions of voices calling for Change! President Obama reminded everyone jokingly that last August (2008) the media was reporting that he lost his “mojo!” “Well…..(there’s something about August)…”
Returning to a serious tone, President Obama stated that everyone has obviously worked consistently, sensibly, deliberately hard for Healthcare Reform with his sincere appreciation, but it is time to continue and cut through the nonsence and noise and lies. President Obama began to walk participants through the myths and lies being reported about Healthcare Reform:
1) This is NOT a government take-over!
2) We are not going to kill grandma, etc. (“Come on, now…”)
3) We have more credibility than the media because we are sharing our personal stories…keep talking to your friends and family and co-workers and neighbors!
4) Those who already have health insurance must understand that:
a. If you like your current insurance plan, doctor, etc., you can keep it;
b. If you don’t, you will have a high-quality, affordable insurance option such as if small business owners and small business employees who
