Health Tip: Recent Findings Have Linked Sleep Deprivation to Obesity. (373 hits)

Health Tip: Recent findings have linked sleep deprivation to obesity. Reduce your risk with my top 5 natural sleep remedies.

1. Turn off your computer and/or television at least an hour before bedtime. Such media have been shown to suppress your body’s production of melatonin, the hormone that controls sleep.

2. Lift weights a few hours before bedtime. Weightlifting has been shown to greatly enhance sleep quality. I emphasize "a few hours before bedtime" as lifting weights too close to your bedtime may actually lead to insomnia.

3. Use lavender as aromatherapy. A substantial amount of research has proven that lavender aids in sleep. You can burn lavender in the form of candles and/or oils. You can also bath yourself in lavender oil just prior to your bedtime.

4. Use yoga and meditation. Opt for gentle yoga poses and stretching and follow that up with 5 to 15 minutes of deep meditation.

5. Supplement your diet with evening doses of calcium and magnesium. Both minerals can boost sleep and their effects are greatly maximized when taken together.
