BOB MARLEY'S SON JULIAN MARLEY IN INDIA (1682 hits)

Julian Marley, raves about India's energetic audience and its abundance of love

INDIA--He has his father's dreadlocks and Rastafari spirit, and Julian Marley - Bob Marley's son with Lucy Pounder - says that just like his legendary father's music, his roots-reggae, Grammy nominated tunes too are inspired by God and spirituality. Julian who was in India to perform at Live From The Console in Goa, said he came to "spread the message of oneness, unity and one love among his Indian brothers and sisters"

On being Bob Marley's son

"Obviously, I am my own individual, but I bring myself and my forefathers with me into my music. I make natural music through the energy and spirit of those who came before me, but my father is my teacher. My style of music definitely comes from my predecessors, my father. We are raised by the inspirations of all our forefathers, but in my heart, the inspiration of my music comes from my father. It is about spreading the message, spreading love, affection and the spirit of the music," he says.

On Reggae music

"Reggae music specifies the everyday life struggles, the ups and downs of life. Reggae music carries the message of upliftment, moving on in life, unity and love. Today you can sing whatever your message is that you want in reggae, but originally reggae music was a hardcore machine for carrying that message of the people," he says.

On playing in India

According to Julian, "Live From The Console is a platform that has supported the indie music scene in India, and they've taken it ahead to the next level by organising it in Goa, one of the best holiday spots in India. This is my first trip to India. I always wanted to come here to perform, and to experience the people, the streets and the good vibes. We come to India with great love, borderless love." About his performance, he said, "It was good, the crowd was very energetic and a lot of love was around."

On being a member of the Rastafari movement
"Rastafari is God, and when you deal with the Almighty, you face him with unity, tranquility, hope and love. When you combine all of it in your life, it helps you to become a very strong human being," says Julian. "For me, following the path of the Almighty - Rastafari, this is whom I call God. Rastafari makes me who I am, straight from the heart and no matter what, Rastafari keeps me hopeful. And when we try to remain hopeful at some point in life, Rastafari is the answer to all the queries," he adds.
