FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FROM MARYLAND CONGRESSMAN DUTCH RUPPERSBERGER!
We can all breathe a sigh of relief, Agnes.
And by all, I mean the 18 million people who live in the Chesapeake watershed area and the 3,600 species of plants and animals that inhabit the bay itself.
In case you haven’t heard, we successfully passed a funding bill that keeps the government running through September and funds the EPA’s Chesapeake Bay restoration program.
I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. A healthy Chesapeake Bay is critical, not just to Maryland’s economy, but to the economies of the six states in the surrounding region.
But as happy as I am, I’m not going to get too comfortable. I know this isn’t over.
The bill only keeps the government running until September. President Trump has already hinted that he would welcome a government shutdown in the fall. That budget could be just as bad as Trump's original proposal. It could put the Chesapeake Bay in danger again.
Our grassroots team scored a victory this time, but we can’t rest even for a second. Join me and pledge to keep protecting the Bay.
