Distribution Intern, Sandbox Films

POSITION SUMMARY

Sandbox Films is looking for a motivated intern for the summer of 2026. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual interested in developing a career in film distribution and impact. This individual will gain insight into aspects of independent documentary film distribution, impact producing and grassroots film campaigns, with a specific focus on supporting the groundwork for a global film screening network.

Genuine interest in distribution, audience engagement, sales, festivals and impact / educational screenings is essential. The focus of this internship is not on development, creative, practical or technical film production. Applicants demonstrating a genuine interest in a career in distribution and audience engagement will be prioritized.

This paid internship has a 32 hour-per-week minimum requirement. It will take place on site at the Sandbox Films office in New York City from June 1 until August 14, 2026.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Research, collect, annotate and organize entries in Sandbox Films' database of potential screening partners including museums, science centers, and membership and affinity groups
  • Research theatrical, VOD and broadcast opportunities for Sandbox Films productions in all territories
  • Research press contacts and publicity/media opportunities for Sandbox Films productions
  • Assist in updating and annotating Sandbox Films' global festivals database
  • Assist the Head of Distribution and Associate Producer with current and upcoming campaign planning and events
  • When required, assist with the creation of discussion guides and educational resources for Sandbox Films productions
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Strong interest in documentary film and science and/or math
  • Must be detail-oriented, deadline-driven and highly organized
  • Must be an excellent team player
  • Software proficient and eager to learn new platforms -ideally proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Applications and Airtable
