<h2 style="text-align: center">Instructor/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Teaching Assistant Professor</h2><h2 style="text-align: center">Department of Chemistry</h2><h3 style="text-align: center">College of Liberal Arts & Sciences</h3>University of Illinois at Urbana-ChampaignThe Department of Chemistry in theCollege of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois atUrbana-Champaign invites applications for up to two positions asInstructor/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Teaching Assistant Professor in GeneralChemistry area.ResponsibilitiesDuties in theInstructor/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Teaching Assistant Professor position are:<ul><li>Preparing and presenting contents in lecture and laboratory courses in General Chemistry.</li><li>Supervising and mentoring teaching assistants, holding office hours to meet with students outside of class time, writing and grading examinations, and assigning grades.</li><li>Coordinating and communicating with the Associate Director of Teaching Labs and lab staff about general chemistry lab courses and experiments.</li><li>Attending General Chemistry area meetings and serving on departmental and University-wide committees on as needed basis.</li><li>Revising course content and syllabi to meet General Education certification and recertification.</li><li>Developing content and teaching online General Chemistry courses that fulfill the University online course certification requirement.</li><li>Serving on one departmental committee a year. </li></ul>Duties in Senior Lecturer and TeachingAssistant Professor positions also include substantial additions, improvements,or other contributions to the chemistry curriculum, such as new coursedevelopment, study abroad experiences, and innovative teaching methods thatimprove student learning.Duties in the Teaching AssistantProfessor position also include substantial educational and technical researchin the chemical sciences and supervision and mentorship of undergraduateresearchers.QualificationsApplicants for the Instructor rank must (i) hold a Masters degree in chemistry, or a closely related fieldand (ii) have demonstrated potential for high-quality college oruniversity-level teaching in chemistry. (iii) Record of teaching effectivenessthat meets the following elements of teaching excellence:<ul><li>Well-designed</li><li>Well-delivered</li><li>Inclusive and ethical</li><li>Reflective and evolving </li></ul>Applicantsfor the Lecturer rank must (i) hold a PhD in chemistry, or a closelyrelated field and (ii) have  demonstratedpotential for high-quality college or university-level teaching in chemistry.(iii) Record of teaching effectiveness that meets the following elements ofteaching excellence:<ul><li>Well-designed</li><li>Well-delivered</li><li>Inclusive and ethical</li><li>Reflective and evolving </li></ul>Applicantsfor the Senior Lecturer rank must (i) hold a PhD in chemistry, or aclosely related field, (ii) have demonstrated effectiveness in university-levelteaching in chemistry, and (iii) Record of teaching effectiveness that meetsthe following elements of teaching excellence:<ul><li>Well-designed</li><li>Well-delivered</li><li>Inclusive and ethical</li><li>Reflective and evolving</li></ul>(iv)experience in curriculum development or current educational technologies.Experience and/or a strong interest in the creation of new and innovativecourse materials and experiments will enhance an application.  Applicants for the TeachingAssistant Professor must (i) hold a PhD in chemistry, or a closely relatedfield, (ii) have demonstrated potential for high-quality college oruniversity-level teaching in chemistry, and (iii) have a strong track record ofresearch in chemistry or chemical education as evidenced through scholarlypublications and invited talks. Candidates must have an interest in thedevelopment of a research program in chemistry or chemical education alongsidetheir teaching and pedagogical duties.<h4>Salary and Appointment Information</h4>The positions are on a 9-month service basis, but with an early startdate of Aug 1, 2026. The position is renewable yearly based on funding andstrong performance reviews. Renewed appointments will be on a 9-month servicebasis (Aug 16–May 15).  The 9-month salaryranges are as follows:<ul><li>Instructor or Lecturer is $60,000–$63,000</li><li>Senior Lecturer is $65,000–$68,000</li><li>Teaching Assistant Professor is $65,000–$68,000</li></ul>Courseswill primarily be taught in person on the Urbana-Champaign campus, with thepotential for online teaching as deemed necessary.  The positions are eligible for sponsorshipexcept for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee. <h4>Application Procedures & Deadline Information</h4>Create your University of Illinoisapplication through: https://go.illinois.edu/CHEMSF. We ask thatall documents be uploaded in a single .pdf file as an upload in the"Resume/CV" section.Instructor/Lecturer and SeniorLecturer applicants are required to submit:<ul><li>An up-to-date curriculum vitae.</li><li>A statement of teaching philosophy and self-evaluation,</li><li>Name and email addresses for three professional references</li><li>In cases where the candidate has prior teaching experience, a teaching portfolio that includes (i) a packet of materials from two different courses recently taught, including syllabi, policies, schedule of topics/assignments, blank copies of assignments/examinations, and other documents that demonstrate teaching effectiveness; (ii) records of three classroom observations by peers from the time of service as Instructor/Lecturer; (iii) longitudinal student evaluations that cover every semester of service as Instructor/Lecturer; and (iv) If the candidate advances in the search process, a letter from the supervisor of the candidate, a senior colleague well-versed with the candidate’s teaching performance, or the head/chair of the candidate’s department will be requested. </li></ul>Teaching Assistant Professor applicants are required to submit:<ul><li>A complete longitudinal record of teaching evaluations,</li><li>A curriculum vitae,</li><li>Teaching statement that summarizes their teaching philosophy and teaching accomplishments, including contributions to the curriculum beyond one’s own classroom(no more than 3 pages, single-spaced</li><li>Sample syllabi, assignments, and other teaching materials that provide evidence of the quality of their instruction,</li><li>A research narrative that describes their current research agenda and plan for contributing scholarship that enhances the Department and University and makes an impact beyond the Campus</li><li>Copies of scholarly works (e.g., articles conference papers) completed.</li><li>Name and email addresses for three professional references who have had opportunities to directly observe and evaluate the candidate's teaching.</li></ul>Full consideration will be given tocomplete applications received by Monday, February 16, 2026.  Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, nohiring decision will be made until after that date.For further information regardingapplication procedures, you may contact lascollegehiring@illinois.edu.
