Anosognosia is a condition that affects all persons with Bipolar at some point in time. What is it? This is the condition in which a person behaves with impaired judgment or otherwise acts recklessly. We each know at least one person who fits in this category and suspect he or she is Bipolar or experiencing some type of mental illness that is not being treated.

Now, you may be wondering if medication will cure the ocurrence of Anosognosia? Yes, taking medications regularly will significantly minimize these manic episodes which are symptoms of Bipolar. Remember, too, that Bipolar has no cure so it is important to seek and obtain treatment for this brain disorder.
In addition, an individual with Bipolar needs to have safety guards in place to protect him or herself and others from this condition. During a manic period, people with bipolar disorder often have impaired judgment and act recklessly. People with bipolar disorder often do not recognize just how ill they are (Anosognosia) and may blame their problems on outside factors. This is denial working at its best.
