With the increased use of information technology and the world wide web, online therapies and coachings are becoming easier and easier to access and help live a successful life!
I am glad that there is a place for those of us who struggle with a brain disorder or mental illness or mental condition be it depression, manic behaviors, ADHD, or something in between, to be able to participate in the internet like others seeking diets, trades, health tips on everything, etc.
According to an article I read in the Afro-American Newspaper, "Study: Drug Addicts Can Recore with Web Counseling," April 25, 2009 - May 1, 2009, Vol. 117, 37, it states in part that participants of online counseling are more satisfied overall and they will increase attendance. I believe this is the same for online networking and coaching, too. I believe so because we can do it from the comfort of our homes, we can create an anonymous identity which allows us to keep our business confidential and private more, and we don't worry about shame and judgments. We can sort of step outside of our selves and be who we dreamed of being in life too with courage and inner strength that can get lost in fears.
We have to be mindful; however, to be careful about when there is a genuine mental health crisis or not. If you find yourself having suicide thoughts, or homicidal thoughts, do not take it lightly and do not think you can work it out by yourself. Contact a physician or 911 immediately! The best help a family member can give to a person in a crisis is to get professional help ASAP!
If you are feeling a little down or need to work on your wellness plan, or try someting new, then it is safe to participate in online coaching for guidance and feedback. I find that it is a great way to form a talk therapy bond that allows me to focus on ME and my needs. Often we forget to do that with our busy lives and depression or anxiety can sneak up on us for a TKO!
