Feeding a family of four on a limited income has become a jugling game. Eating healthy is becoming more difficult...if you don't believe it check out the cost of fresh fruits, vegetables and organic food. On the other hand the fast food menu prices are on a steady decline.
So as families are looking for any way to make ends meet, our health is at risk because the first choice for many is for the cheapier fast food, a family of four eating from the dollar menu goes a lot farther. But what we need to consider is the long term effect poor nutrtion will have, hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, etc. People who are overweight, which can be a by-product of fast food, are 25% more like to have some form of heart disease and 44 % higher risk for hypertension.
So it is one of those things like you can pay now by purchasing the higher costing food now or pay later by having poor health and mounting medical bills.
There are several different programs that will assist an individual to be able to afford wiser food choices. Check in your local area to see if there are barter programs, gleaning programs-
http://www.endhunger.org/gleaning_network.... or programs for people with fix incomes (you do have to locate programs that are concerned with healthy eating as some of them I have seen do not offer healthy food choices_.
We are willing to search for those bargain for our other needs...begin to search out those that will help with your dietary choices.
