The road is rough during the recession and there will be many more businesses closing or downsizing to stay afloat.
That may mean you or a family member will lose his or her job. That will mean an increase In stress and worry about food, shelter, and utilities, etc., and that could lead to a more serious mental condition.
Here are some good tips to prevent a serious mental condition after a job loss (or any life challenge):
1) Don't take it personally. Remember, it is a business decision and not about you;
2) Reach out to someone for talk therapy. It is alright to be angry. Allow the emotion of anger to flow in a constructive way by talking to a close friend or family member;
3) If you find that the emotion of anger is not going away and it is intefering in your ability to focus after a few days, contact a support group or church ministry;
4) If you received a severance pay, secure your house note/rent, utilities, food, and medications first then prioritize your monthly bills;
5) You may become depressed. That is a normal emotion, too, but if the depression is persistent and interrupting your daily life after two weeks, call your doctor. If you ever feel suicidal or have suicidal thoughts, contact your doctor or nearest hospital right away!
6) Exercise! Take a nice long walk every day and preferably in the morning. Exercise helps to energize you and keep a balance of chemicals flowing to the brain.
7) Pray. Feed your spirit food daily and throughout the day to stay spiritually well. "Cast all your worries to me."
