When I was a little girl growing up just outside of Cleveland, an elder at my church encouraged me to join the youth council of a local civil rights organization, the Cleveland NAACP. It was my first taste of organizing in my community -- and I haven't looked back.
Since we launched African Americans for Obama this month, we've been busy ramping up our work. And right now, I want to ask you for some help as we get ready for November 6th.

http://my.barackobama.com/Volunteer-for-Af... Just this week, we launched the Greater Together series with a student summit at North Carolina Central University. We'll be holding more meetings like this with America's next generation of organizers at Historically Black College and University (HBCU) campuses across the country in the coming days. And we're rolling out the Barber Shop and Beauty Salon program in states that will be critical to the President's re-election.
As a student of history and someone who has fought for change my whole life, I understand how remarkable it is to have President Obama in office. Across the board, we're seeing real progress -- job security for tens of thousands of middle-class African Americans, expanding access to health insurance coverage for up to 7 million African Americans, and record investments in education. No matter who becomes the Republican nominee, we can expect an opponent who wants to undo this president's work.
Back in 2008, the election wasn't just about electing one man. It was about changing the guard and the way people are included in politics -- and it only happened because of the hard work of volunteers and supporters around the country.
That's why we're getting to work now: to protect what we've achieved and take ownership of what happens in November.
