Nutrition Tip: Cantaloupe Power (487 hits)

Cantaloupe is one of the most deliciously sweet fruits and it is extremely nutrient dense. Besides being a good source of carotenoids, potassium, vitamin B6, folate, niacin and dietary fiber, cantaloupe is an excellent source of adenosine, which has blood thinning benefits. Due to its effects, adenosine is commonly given to individuals with heart disease in order to reduce blood clot formation and relieve angina (chest pain). Cantaloupe is extremely low in calories (~45 calories for 1/4 of a medium-sized melon), sodium, saturated fat, and cholesterol. You can reap the health benefits of cantaloupe by consuming it in whole or juiced form. I am a cantaloupe addict and I prefer to consume it in the form of juice because the skin can be included, which makes it that much more nutritious.
