Tolerance Is The Wisdom To
Understand And Accept The
Value Of All Persons.
It Sees Beyond Our Limited
Perspectives To A Deeper
Appreciation Of Those Who
Are Different From Us.
It Releases Us From The Bondage
Of Prejudice.
When We Practice Tolerance, We
Expand Our Insight And Understanding.
Few Qualities Enable Us To Reach Our
Full Potential More Effectively Or
Productively Than The Willingness To
Accept People We May Not At First
Understand Or Like, And Find A Way To
Work With Them.
: Engaged Tolerance :
So Misunderstand Authentic Tolerance.
They See It As Noninvolvement, Noninterference,
Live – And – Let – Live.
Authentic Tolerance Is Concerned And Engaged.
The Truly Tolerant Live Beyond Themselves For
The Benefit Of Those Who Are Different Or Even
Difficult.
They Share Their Blessings With Those Less
Blessed, Their Talents With Those Less Talented,
Their Love With Those Less Loved, And Their Help
With Those Less Secure.
They Also Reach Out To Those They Don’t Like.
This Does Not Mean Allowing Others T o Tread
Upon Our Individuality.
Nor Does It Require That We Suffer The Selfish Acts
Of Others Who Disagree With Us.
It Means We Hold Our Own While Holding The
Others In Our Esteem.
It Means We Seek Ways To Work Together While
Respecting Our Differences.
It Means We Take The Risk Of Crossing The Barrier
Of Prejudice.
It Means We Are Sufficiently Secure In Ourselves
To Allow Others To Be Who They Are.
Insecurity Breeds Fear, And Fear Demonizes The
Unknown And The Unlike.
Tolerance, On The Other Hand, Is The Attitude
Of Those Who Are Secure In Themselves.
It Breeds Love, And Love Seeks To Understand
All Things And All Persons.
