The little book that could, Sojourn to Honduras Sojourn to Healing, says chickpeas, an alkaline legume, is one of the best food sources, far healthier than beans and rice, white rice, which is what is eaten in Cuba now. To send more is a travesty of nutrition. When the Cuban embargo eased a bit five years ago, food and medicine were sent to the island. Do you suppose there's a connection between the food and medicine needs in Cuba? Does one need cause a need for the other?
Let's hope chickpeas and quinoa make their way to Cuba and to more plates around the world.
