Last month, NAMI Maryland Executive Director, Kate Farinholt, had the opportunity to attend a briefing at White House as part of the White House 21st Century Policing Briefing Series.
Since the President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing released its final report in May 2015, the White House regularly convenes events to discuss the Task Force's recommendations and broader issues related to police-community relations. The briefings provide an overview of the recommendations and allow for discussion of public safety officers and other interested parties on how they can implement the recommendations in every day practice.
The briefing in last month featured sessions on the Police Data Initiative, Implicit Bias Training and Social Media Storytelling. However, the highlight of the day was a surprise drop-by from President Obama!
