Who is in Your Village?
Who are all the people who help you to make sure your child is successful in school? Yes, the classroom teacher and supportive Principal, but who else makes up your “village”? As we consider family engagement in school, we encourage families to think of all the resources that they have to make sure their children get to school on-time, get help with their homework, have a safe place to go after school, enjoy extra-curricular activities, and all the many other activities for positive academic outcomes and a happy childhood. We all know, it truly takes a village to raise a child!
As the Family Ambassador, I will be posting a blogpost encouraging families to identify this support network in making their child successful and to celebrate those connections. The blogpost,
http://blog.ed.gov/2016/11/who-is-in-your-... will be posted on Nov. 10, along with a social media tiMe on Twitter - #myVillage. We invite you to post pictures or words about who makes up your village of support. Feel free to use the attached sign in your pictures or make up your own using #myVillage and @FamiliesatED.
Also, look for the blogpost on Homeroom, tweet about it or retweet me. Invite your own friends, family, and children’s school community to also participate. We want to encourage everyone to celebrate their village!
