FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!
What Open Enrollment Means For Veterans and Their Families
LEARN MORE here!: By: Sylvia Mathews Burwell, HHS Secretary
Summary:
Today, more veterans have the security and peace of mind that health coverage provides. But we have more work to do.
Every November 11th, we set aside a day to honor the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces and bravely served our nation. One of the ways we can honor their service is by making sure every veteran has access to affordable, quality health care.
From 2013 to 2015, as the main provisions of the Affordable Care Act took effect, the uninsurance rate for nonelderly veterans fell by an estimated 42 percent. For those veterans who have not gotten coverage, I want to share a few things they and their families should know about health coverage.
During Open Enrollment, from now until January 31, people in every state can visit HealthCare.gov to shop for affordable, quality health coverage. This includes our veterans and their families. While people with coverage through TRICARE or the VA don’t need to purchase additional coverage, people who don’t have coverage through other federal programs—and that may include some veterans—now have new options for health insurance.
Coverage is available and affordable through the Marketplace.
Veterans can go to HealthCare.gov and shop around for a plan that works for them and their families. Most Americans shopping on HealthCare.gov will be able to find health coverage for less than $75 per month after tax credits. And most shoppers will qualify for financial assistance to make coverage more affordable.
