Black Health is built by Black journalists, clinicians, and community advocates who understand, from lived experience, that the American health system has too often failed Black patients. Our team brings together editorial independence, clinical expertise, and deep community trust to produce health information you can actually use.

Will Moss

Founder

Founder of HBCU Connect. Hampton University, 1995.

William R. Moss III founded Black Health in 2002. His work in Black digital media spans nearly three decades. He launched HBCU Connect in June 1999 and built it into the largest online network for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, reaching roughly 350,000 monthly visitors and connecting HBCU students, alumni, and the employers who recruit from this community.

Will graduated from Hampton University in 1995 as the top Computer Science scholar in his class. He joined AT&T Bell Labs as a lead software engineer and left in 1999 to build one of the earliest Black-targeted social networks on the internet. He later launched additional community platforms including BlackHistory.com, AfricanAmericanCareers.com, and BlackWomenConnect.com. He holds an MBA in Marketing from Keller Graduate School of Management.

At Black Health, Will leads partnerships with HBCUs, Black professional organizations, and the institutions whose work shapes Black health outcomes.

Mario Bailey

Chief Technology Officer

Founder of BaileyFinch Solutions. University of Vermont, 2017.

Mario Bailey is the founder of BaileyFinch Solutions, an IT firm that delivers software and cybersecurity solutions to federal agencies. He has spent over a decade as a software engineer building secure, resilient systems for environments where reliability is not optional.

Mario graduated from the University of Vermont in 2017. At BaileyFinch he leads engineering teams delivering technology across the federal contracting space, with a focus on security and platform performance.

At Black Health, Mario serves as Chief Technology Officer. He is responsible for the platform's infrastructure, performance, and security, making sure the tools and resources Black families rely on stay available, fast, and trustworthy.

Editorial Team

Simone Abara, MPH, Editor-in-Chief
Simone has spent fifteen years working across public health journalism and community advocacy. A graduate of Howard University and the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, she previously served as health editor at a national Black media organization and as a communications fellow at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She leads editorial strategy, manages the medical advisory board relationship, and writes a weekly editor's note. Contact: the editorial team via our contact form

Marcus Reid, Managing Editor
Marcus coordinates daily editorial operations, story assignments, and fact-checking workflows. A graduate of Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism, he spent eight years at regional newspapers covering health policy and local government before joining digital health media. Marcus oversees corrections policy and manages relationships with freelance contributors. Contact: the managing editor via our contact form

Destiny Okafor, MS, Lead Health Reporter
Destiny covers chronic disease, reproductive health, and health equity policy. She holds a master's in health communication from Boston University and has been recognized by the National Association of Black Journalists for her investigative reporting on maternal mortality. Operations & Partnerships

James Whitfield, Directory Operations Manager
James leads the provider verification process, NPI validation, and directory quality assurance. With a background in healthcare administration and a decade of experience in credentialing, he ensures every provider listing meets our verification standards. Aaliyah Mensah, Community Partnerships
Aaliyah builds and maintains relationships with community health organizations, HBCUs, faith communities, and advocacy groups. She coordinates our community events calendar and ensures Black Health remains accountable to the communities it serves. Contact: the community team via our contact form

Medical Advisory Board

Our Medical Advisory Board reviews editorial content and clinical accuracy standards. We are actively recruiting licensed Black clinicians across specialties including primary care, OB-GYN, psychiatry, cardiology, and pediatrics.
